Doing our bit in the community
Every so often we take on a project purely because it’s the right thing to do, not because it’s on the books. Here’s a look at some of the community work we’ve been involved in lately, starting with our latest.
Hazeldown Primary School: a green roof for the future
Our team helped create a brand new green roof for Hazeldown Primary School in Teignmouth, working as part of a wider charity initiative led by Kier Group, with materials supplied by Bauder Flat Roofs.
Once established, this roof will:
- Provide vital habitats for local wildlife
- Improve biodiversity across the school grounds
- Give students hands-on learning opportunities right outside the classroom door
It’s also a genuine step forward in the school’s application for Eco Schools status, and we’re glad to have played a part in getting them there.
A little while after the job wrapped up, we received a thank you card from the students. It’s the kind of thing that means more to us than any invoice ever could.
Ogmore Vale RFC: proper facilities for a proper club
Our team also headed out to Ogmore Vale in South Wales, working in a stunning spot surrounded by hills and valleys, for a project that was all about grassroots sport rather than the bottom line.
We converted two portacabins into safe, fully functional changing rooms and shower facilities for Ogmore Vale RFC, giving players across their senior, veterans, and mini/junior teams the amenities they deserve. As part of the job, progressive installed a modern, insulated ceiling, all as part of a wider charity project led by Willmott Dixon, with materials supplied by IKO PLC (UK) and Bauder Flat Roofs.
Clubs like this run on volunteers and goodwill, and it was brilliant to see everyone in the supply chain pull together for a cause like grassroots sport. Great work, team.
Poltair School: kitting out the next intake
We sponsored the Transition Day t-shirts for Poltair School’s incoming Year 6 students. It’s a small thing, but starting somewhere new is a big deal for an eleven year old, and turning up in a matching tutor group t-shirt makes it that bit easier to feel like you belong from day one. The school got in touch afterwards to say thank you, and honestly, that meant a lot.
Our neighbourhood: a litter pick with First Flexi Lease
Community work doesn’t always mean a big project with a charity partner behind it. Recently the team teamed up with our neighbours at First Flexi Lease for a litter pick around the progressive offices, filling seven bags of rubbish between them. It’s not glamorous, but it’s the kind of thing that makes a real, visible difference to the area we work in every day.
Why we do it
Honesty is what we’re known for, on pricing, on scheduling, on how a job’s actually going. That same straight-up approach carries into how we think about giving back. None of this is about ticking a CSR box. It’s about using what we’re good at, roofing and cladding, to help the people and places around us when we can. Small projects like these don’t always make headlines, but they make a real difference to the people on the other end of them. We’ll keep doing them, and we’ll keep telling you about them.
