Young Roofer of the Year: Corey Dowell’s Story
A Huge Achievement at Just 19
At just 19 years old, Corey Dowell has already built a reputation for hard work, commitment, and a mindset far beyond his years.
Recently crowned Young Roofer of the Year at the NFRC UK Roofing Awards 2026, Corey’s achievement is a proud moment for everyone at progressive and a reflection of the dedication he has shown since the very start of his career.
Unfortunately, Corey was unable to attend the awards evening as he was away on holiday, so members of the progressive team proudly collected the award on his behalf.
But while the award itself is a huge achievement, Corey’s story started long before the ceremony.

A Strong Work Ethic From an Early Age
Corey has been working since the age of 14 while still in education, driven by a desire to build a better future for himself.
From a young age, he showed a level of determination and responsibility that stood out. That same work ethic continues to define the way he approaches his apprenticeship and day to day work within the roofing industry.
Since joining progressive, Corey has consistently impressed both on site and at college through his attitude, willingness to learn, and commitment to improving.
Progressing Quickly Through His Apprenticeship
Corey’s development throughout his apprenticeship has been exceptional.
He completed his functional skills at college within just one month and has continued to receive excellent feedback from tutors throughout his course.
Despite only being halfway through his apprenticeship, his portfolio is already nearing completion, highlighting the amount of effort and focus he puts into developing his skills and knowledge.
His progress is not only being recognised at college, but on site too.
Confidence Beyond His Experience
Whether preparing work areas, organising materials for the day ahead, or carrying out work with minimal supervision, Corey regularly shows initiative and problem solving skills beyond his level of experience.
Since starting with progressive, he has come on in leaps and bounds.
Corey works proactively, identifies issues when they arise, and takes appropriate action confidently. He is also a great team player who is always willing to support others, contribute ideas, and continue improving.
It is clear to everyone around him that he has a very bright future ahead within the industry.
Representing the Next Generation of Roofing
Corey represents the next generation of roofing in exactly the right way.
Motivated, hardworking, eager to learn, and proud of the industry he is building a career in.
He has also become a positive example for other young people considering construction and roofing as a career path, openly sharing his apprenticeship journey and showing what can be achieved with the right mindset and commitment.
At progressive, investing in young people and supporting the next generation of skilled tradespeople is incredibly important, and Corey is a brilliant example of why apprenticeships continue to play such a vital role within the industry.
Looking Ahead
Everyone at progressive is incredibly proud of everything Corey has achieved so far, and this award is fully deserved.
Winning Young Roofer of the Year is a huge achievement, but it feels like only the beginning for Corey.
We are excited to continue supporting his journey and look forward to seeing where his career takes him next.
